Owens and doubles partner Garrett Bond earned their first win of the year as they edged Estacada's Caleb Brotnov and Carson Eaton 7-5, 7-5. The Cowboys won all but one match on the day as they defeated the Rangers 7-1.The Estacada boys tennis team is full of brand-new athletes and first-year players. While head coach Nathan Allen is encouraged with the progress that his guys have made, they were clearly overmatched against a more experienced Crook County team.

Crook County dominated the Rangers in the first dual meet of the Tri-Valley Conference season, beating Estacada 7-1 on Tuesday. The Cowboys swept all four singles matches and one three out of the four doubles matches.

Allen, however, still found the positives in his team's performance, despite the result.

Estacada's normal No. 1 singles player, Cody Syring, was out due to sickness, which meant freshman Tai Shibahara would step up in his place. Shibahara provided a decent challenge against Crook County's Alex Nyman, going up 3-2 in the first set. But ultimately, Nyman was way too much to handle for the young freshman as the Cowboys' top player defeated Shibahara 6-3, 6-1.

"It definitely wasn't my strongest performance, but give credit to (Shibahara) for throwing me off my pace in the first set," Nyman said. "But once the pace picked up, I was able to get back into my groove."

In the No. 1 doubles match, Crook County's brother combo of Alex and Moses Freauff defeated Estacada's Gabriel Martinez and Grant Wagner and did so without losing a game.

"It was really good to see my guys play well and win most of their matches," Crook County head coach Jonathan Oelkers said. "It's fun to see them start to play better, and it especially feels good to win the number one singles and doubles matches."

The top match of the day came in the No. 2 doubles match when Estacada's Caleb Brotnov and Carson Eaton squared up against Crook County's Jordon Owens and Garrett Bond. While Brotnov and Eaton came back to tie both sets at 5-5, it was the Crook County duo that ultimately ended up winning the match, 7-5, 7-5.

Estacada's one victory in the meet came in the No. 3 doubles match as Fernando Villafania and Casey Pinto defeated the Crook County combo of Colby Mason and Casey Hewitt by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

The other Cowboy singles victories included Javier Domingez over Jeff Lippert, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, Holt Porfily cruised past James Rich 6-0, 6-1.

The other Cowboys' doubles teams that came out victorious was at No. 4, when Nicolas Cushman and Jeremy Muccolough beat Conner Cloud and Jon Juker 6-4, 6-4.
