Three Cowgirls named to all-state team
After reaching the first round of the state playoffs, three members of this year's Crook County High School softball team have received all-state recognition.
Leading the way for Crook County is senior outfielder Abby Dalton, who was named to the all-state second team.
Dalton, who was a first team all-state selection a year ago, is a four-year all-league selection. Joining Dalton on the all-state team are sophomores Ashley Owens and Brooke Dalton.
Owens — last year's most valuable player in the state championship game and an all-league selection this season — was selected to the all-state third team, also as an outfielder.
Brooke Dalton, an honorable mention selection, was the Cowgirls' starting pitcher most of the season, leading the team to a second-place finish in the Tri-Valley Conference.
She was selected to the all-league first team in her first year as a starter.
The Cowgirls finished the year with a 17-10 overall record and a 10-5 league mark.
The Cowgirls were eliminated from the playoffs by La Grande, which went on to win the state championship with a 6-1 victory over last year's champion, the Henley Hornets.
