Pendleton Buckaroos easily win home tournament, while Ridgeivew finishes second

LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Kaiya Eller plays a shot at a recent home tournament. Eller led the Cowgirls with a career-best round of 93 on Monday in Pendleton.The Crook County Cowgirls played some of their best golf of the year on Monday at the final Intermountain Conference tournament of the regular season.

Despite their solid play, the Cowgirls could only manage a fifth-place finish in the tournament, which was held at Wildhorse Golf Course in Pendleton, with a score of 443.

Pendleton ran away from the field, firing a 360 to win by more than 40 strokes.

Ridgeview was a distant second with a score of 401, while Redmond finished third, 413, and The Dalles fourth, 431. Hood River Valley trailed the field with a round of 522.

Pendleton's Megan George ran away with medalist honors, shooting a four-over-par 76.

Redmond's Elizabeth Roundtree finished second with a round of 87, while Rylee Harris of Pendleton was third with an 89.

Crook County was led by Kaiya Eller, who tied for sixth overall with a round of 93.

"She has never broke 100 before, so it was a new PR and good tournament," Crook County head coach Sarah Shinkle said of Eller's performance.

Sami Todd was next in for the Cowgirls with a round of 106. She was followed by Jaylyn Smith with a round of 109.

The final Cowgirl to count in the scoring was Emma Stefanek, who posted a score of 135.

Bethany Kelso also competed in the event, finishing with a score of 136.

The Cowgirls played their final regular season tournament on Thursday at Quail Run Golf Course in La Pine.

The team then hosts the Intermountain Conference tournament on Monday and Tuesday, May 6-7 at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. Golf begins at 9 a.m. both days.
