Crook County Cowgirls and Ridgeview are only teams at tournament to field complete teams

LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Sami Todd finishes second overall at Quail Run Golf Course as the Cowgirls win invitational

The Crook County Cowgirls won their first tournament of the year on Thursday, as they took first at the La Pine Invitational, held at Quail Run Golf Course in La Pine.

The Cowgirls shot one of their best rounds of the year as they finished with an 18-hole total of 455.

Ridgeview finished second in the tournament with a score of 478.

La Pine also competed, but failed to field a complete team.

La Pine's Charity Hunt took medalist honors at the event, with a round of 102.

Crook County's Sami Todd finished second, 107, while Ridgeview's Halle Seber was third, 108.

Other Crook County golfers included Jaylyn Smith, 113, Kaiya Eller, 114, Emma Stefanek, 121, and Bethany Kelso, 146.

The Cowgirls host the Special District 1 championships, which began on Monday and continue through today.

Teams from Crook County, Hillsboro, Hood River Valley, La Salle Prep, Milwaukie, Parkrose, Pendleton, Putnam, Redmond, Ridgeview, Scappoose, St. Helens, The Dalles, and Wilsonville are all expected to be in attendance.

The top three teams from the district will qualify for the state tournament, along with the top four individuals who are not on a state qualifying team.

The state tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 13-14 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.

Play is scheduled to begin today at 9 a.m.
