Local club crowns three weight class champions and has five other placers at 223-team tournament in Spokane

The Cowboy Mat Club took a large contingent of wrestlers to Spokane on Nov. 23 for the USA Wrestling Tour of America Northwest Bigfoot Championships.

Out of 223 teams in the tournament, the Cowboy Mat Club finished ninth in the team competition, as well as crowning three individual champions and five other placers.

Winning championships for the club were Cruz Evans, who took the 8U 56-pound championship, Maylee Yancey, who won the girls 12U 75-pound title, and Triston White, who won the middle school 187-pound title.

Evans went 4-0 at the tournament with two falls and a technical fall as he rolled to the weight-class championship.

Yancey went 3-0 at the tournament with two first-round falls and a 6-4 decision in the championship, while White was 3-0 with two falls and a 5-3 decision in the championship.

Other Cowboy Mat Club members to place included Kyndrah Meadows, who placed second in the girls 10U 42- to 47-pound weight class, Mckenzie Shearon, who was second in the middle school girls 110-pound weight class, Gavin Sandoval, who was third in the middle school 114-pound weight class, Casen Villastrigo, who was fifth in the 12U 63-pound weight class, and Chase Hemphill, who was sixth in the 12U 70-pound weight class.

Several other Cowboy Mat Club members also won matches at the tournament,but did not place.
