Hunter Mode named Class 5A wrestler of the year
The accolades keep coming in for Hunter Mode.
After winning his third consecutive state championship, Mode was recently named the Oregon Wrestling Forum Class 5A wrestler of the year for 2020.
Mode, who started the season at 145 pounds but went down to 138 for the state tournament, finished the year with a 44-6 record.
The CCHS senior had previously won the Class 5A championship at 126 pounds in 2019, the Class 4A 106-pound championship in 2018, and had finished second at 106 pounds in the Class 4A tournament in 2017.
Other wrestlers to be recognized by The OWF as classification wrestlers of the year were 132-pound Kaleb Oliver, of Oakland, class 1A/2A; 126-pound Gabe Vidlak, of Cascade Christian, Class 3A; 170-pound Parker Robinson, of La Grande, Class 4A; 145-pound Beau Ohlson, of Mountain View, Class 6A; and 125-pound Emma Truex, of Phoenix, girls.
Mode was also ranked second in the website's all-classification 138-pound final rankings and 10th in the pound-for-pound rankings.
