CCHS's Woodward signs to compete at Eastern
2020 Crook County High School graduate Kenna Woodward recently signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.
Woodward finished third in both the shot put and discus at the 2019 OSAA Class 5A State Track Meet. She was also an all-state performer in volleyball in 2019.
Woodward did not have an opportunity to compete in track and field in 2020 due to restrictions caused by COVID-19.
"I think that it's the best fit for me," Woodward said of choosing Eastern Oregon. "Looking at their records and everything for track and field, they meet the requirements for me because I want to go somewhere where I will be able to get better in the program."
Woodward added that she has family members attending the university as well as several friends.
"I have a lot of friends going there this year," she said. "And it is a lot like Prineville, so I don't think it will be a huge change for me, which I think is going to be better in the long term."
Woodward plans on studying psychology at the university, where she expects to compete in the shot put, discus and hammer as well as the 20 pound weight throw in indoor meets.
She received a $2,000 athletic scholarship as well as a $500 academic scholarship to the university.
"I'm excited to get there and just to get better at everything," she said.
