Crook County High School boys golfers look sharp in winning the first tournament of the season

LON AUSTIN - Hogan Smith, a senior, tied for medalist honors with his brother, Palmer, a sophomore, at a three-team event at Eagle Crest Resort Sept. 30. The brothers carded a 40 in the nine-hole event to lead Crook County to a 10-shot victory.

The Crook County High School boys golf team opened season 1 in convincing fashion in a Wednesday afternoon tournament at Eagle Crest Resort.

The Cowboys posted a team score of 169 for the nine-hole tournament. Ridgeview finished second with a score of 179 while Redmond was a distant third with a score of 227.

"It was great to get back out on the course in a tournament, even if it was just nine holes," Crook County head coach Zach Lampert said. "I think the kids did well over all. We were a little rusty. Most of them have had no competition in about a year and a half, but the top four guys all played pretty steady."

CCHS brothers Hogan (a senior) and Palmer (sophomore) Smith tied for medalist honors with Dylan Bojanowski of Ridgeview. All three golfers finished with identical rounds of 40.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cowboys were Carlos Sanchez, 44, and Cayden Lowenback, 45.

Other Cowboys who played but did not count in the scoring included Carson Smith, 50, Gage Hanson, 50, Zach Gonzalez, 55, Wyatt Wood, 58, and Konner Budre, 60.

The three teams compete again on Wednesday, Oct. 7, again at Eagle Crest Resort, with tee times beginning at 3:45 p.m.
