The Cowgirls came out on top, scoring 70.33 points to 51.33 for Pendleton and 26.33 for Ridgeview

The Crook County High School track and field squad traveled to Ridgeview Thursday for a three-way meet with the Ravens and the Pendleton Buckaroos.

The Cowgirls came out on top, scoring 70.33 points to 51.33 for Pendleton and 26.33 for Ridgeview. In the boys meet, it was a different story as Ridgeview ran away with the meet, amassing 88 points. Pendleton was second with 56 points, while the Cowboys trailed the field with 36 points.

The Cowgirls took first place in six individual events. Crook County dominated the girls throwing events as Josie Kasberger won both the shot put, 29-10.50, and javelin, 91-03, while Grace Brooks won the discus with a throw of 99-07. Kasberger also finished second in the discus with a throw of 85-03, while Brooks was second in the shot put with a throw of 29-01. Lauren Papke also had a good day in the throws, placing in all three events. Papke was second in the javelin, 77-06, third in the discus, 80-08, and fourth in the shot put, 25-11.

Other Crook County individual winners were Madelynn Fuentes in the long jump, 17-00, Lindsey Mode in the 1,500, 5:39.59, and Maggie Ramos in the 400 with a time of 1:04.92.

In addition to winning the 1,500, Mode also finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:54.56. Kelcie Ames finished second in the 1,500 in 5:59.47, while Cowgirls took the top five places in the 400. McKenzie Jonas finished second, 1:08.80, Madelynn Fuentes third, 1:08.87, Aubrey Love fourth, 1:10.35, and Tienna Quinn fifth, 1:13.47.

Love also tied for first in the pole vault with a clearance of 7-00.

Although no time was recorded for any teams, the Cowgirl 4x100 relay team of Quinn, Fuentes, Dallas Hutchins and Ramos easily won the event.

In addition to the 400, Jonas was also second in the 200 for the Cowgirls with a time of 29.12. Other Cowgirl placers included Eliot Moore, second in the high jump with a leap of 4-04, and Hutchins, who was third in the long jump with a leap of 14-09.59.

The Cowboys had just one individual winner in the race but did have a number of second places.

Zach Guthrie was Crook County's lone winner, taking the 100 with a time of 11.50. Guthrie was also second in the long jump with a leap of 21-02.25 and ran on the Cowboy 4x100 relay team along with Westley Ossenkop, Julian Lopez and Kyree Willis, taking third place with a time of 48.19.

Earning second place finishes for the Cowboys were Alec Carne in the 400, 54.50, Alex Vail in the 1,500, 4:40.35, Joel Rice in the 3,000, 12:25.81, and Kyree Willis in the triple jump, 37-11.25.

In addition to taking second in the 1,500, Vail was also third in the 800 with a time of 2:18.22.

Other Cowboy third-place finishers included Alex Smith in both the 200, 24.59, and 110 hurdles, 18.31, and Azariah Becker in the javelin with a throw of 110-11.

The Cowboys also took second in the 4x400 relay as Tristen Lay, Jacob McKinnon, Daniel Olson and Aaron Fehrenbacher finished with a time of 4:26.96.

Crook County returns home on Thursday, April 29 when they host Redmond and Hood River Valley at Ward Rhoden Stadium. Field events are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. with running events scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
