Crook County tennis team didn't have anyone place at this year's district tournamen

The Crook County High School boys tennis team didn't have anyone place at this year's district tournament, which was held Thursday, May 20 and Saturday, May 22 in Redmond.

In singles play, Joey Stenbeck had a first-round bye, then defeated a player from Hood River 6-3, 6-1 before falling to a player from Redmond in the quarterfinals.

Gabe Rothenberger lost his first-round match 6-7 (1), 0-6 to a player from Ridgeview, then defeated a player from The Dalles 8-5 in a pro set in the first round of consolation play before falling in the second round of consolation to a Redmond player.

Aiden Bonner had a first-round bye, then lost a tight 6-7 (3), 2-6 match to a player from The Dalles before falling in the first round of consolation to a Ridgeview athlete.

The Cowboys final singles player, Aidyne Barnes, also had a first-round bye, then lost consecutive matches to players from Pendleton and Ridgeview to drop out of the tournament.

In doubles play, Layton Marshal and Stephen Strong had a first-round bye, then lost 6-0, 6-0 to the number three seed from Redmond, before falling 6-1, 6-0 to a team from The Dalles in the first round of consolation.

"Given the age of our boys and this being my first year working with them, I was pleased with how the boys played," Crook County head coach Eric Ryan said. "I wish Joey didn't have to face the number three seed in the second round. It would have been fun to see him face off against the competition in the consolation bracket. I'm very excited for our off-season conditioning/hitting plans and what the next season will bring."
