Coaching change for Cowgirl soccer
It's a new day for the Crook County High School girls soccer team.
This week, the team found out that they would have a new coaching staff for the remainder of the season, and the team responded with possibly their best match of the year in a 3-0 loss on the road to The Dalles.
"Given our situation, I thought we played really hard," interim head coach Aaron Raasch said. "We took it to them. We didn't get the W, but we gave it a good shot."
A 3-0 loss might not sound like anything to write home about. However, in their first meeting of the year, the Cowgirls lost 6-0 to the Riverhawks.
With just a day of practice with their new coaches, the team cut that deficit in half.
Raasch said that he was especially pleased with the play of defenders Lauren Papke and MaKenna Duran.
"We did some good things and I'm optimistic for the rest of the year," he added. With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 0-6 in league and 0-10 overall, while The Dalles improved to 3-2-1 in conference play and 4-5-2 overall.
The Cowgirls host Hood River Valley today, then go on the road at Pendleton on Thursday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
