Crook County High School senior Meredith Cooper will compete in the OSAA Class 5A Girls State Tennis Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday, May 20-21.

Friday's first day of the tournament will be held at the Portland Tennis Center, while Saturday will be held at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton.

Cooper, who is unseeded, will compete in the state tournament for the first time. She had lost just three matches heading into the Intermountain Conference District championships, but the senior dropped two matches at district. Cooper will face freshman McKenzie Larsen of Churchill in the opening round. Should Cooper win, she will face either No. 2 seed Sofia Alzugaray-Orellana, a senior from Corvallis, or Springfield senior Carina Davis in the tournament quarterfinals.

Kennedy Harris, a freshman from La Salle Prep, has the tournament's No. 1 seed, while Silverton sophomore Sophia Katz, Pendleton senior Olivia Corbett and Crescent Valley sophomore Kerry Lin have the remaining seeds.

With just one athlete at the state tournament, Crook County will not be competing for the state title. Crescent Valley and La Salle Prep are expected to battle for the state championship, with the teams from Redmond, Silverton, Wilsonville and Churchill all potentially challenging for trophies.
