In one of the closest competitions in years, Jake Shinkle outlasted Patrick Andrade and Steve Baker to win the 2022 Meadow Lakes Men's Club Championship in a sudden-death playoff.

Playing at Meadow Lakes Golf Course the last weekend of July — in scorching temperatures — Shinkle parred both playoff holes to defeat Andrade and Baker.

"I'd say the scores were maybe a little higher than some years, but the weather definitely played a factor," said Meadow Lakes head golf professional Zach Lampert about the tournament. "The guys really had to battle the extreme heat. Jake was able to make pars on the two playoff holes and outlast the others."

All three golfers played identical rounds in regulation — 79 in the first round and 76 in the second, for a total score of 155 — before Shinkle finally won the sudden-death playoff.

Finishing fourth overall in the championship bracket was Ted Kennedy, who posted rounds of 80 and 78 for a final score of 158. He was followed by Joe Litzinger (82-80—162) and Aaron Heskett (83-80—163).

Andrade did not go home empty-handed, though, as he won both the overall net championship and the senior gross championship. Andrade posted rounds of 70 and 67 to win the net championship with a total score of 137. In the battle for net honors, Andrade was followed by Shinkle (74-71—145), Litzinger (74-72—146) and Jose Sanchez (73-75—148).

J.W. Miller (71-70—141) was the senior net champion, while Tom Liljeholm (76-79—155) was the super-senior gross champion. Meanwhile, Calvin Petz (68-69—137) was crowned the super-senior net champion.

Baker and Shinkle are locked in a tight battle to win the Slater Cup season standings, with Baker amassing 1,021.67 points so far this year, while Shinkle has 935.84. Rounding out the top five in the current Slater Cup standings are Joe Hudspeth (822.50 points), Jim Johnson (820.00) and Steve Spangler (783.75).
