River Terrace activities for every interest (part 2)
At River Terrace, we take care to craft social events that will not only be entertaining and improve cognition but touch our resident's hearts. These larger events take a bit more planning, but the reward is worth it.
Last November, we honored our veterans with a pinning ceremony, speech and music along with hand-made thank you cards from a local grade school.
"We often have volunteers that come in to either give our veteran residents items of honor and respect for their service," said Life Enrichment Coordinator Anthony Nosen. "I have made connections with volunteer quilters that put together beautiful 'Quilts of Valor' for residents and we have community churches and schools that like to get involved in larger events. Some hospice groups are also very supportive of our veteran events."
Nosen strives to be creative and have fun with his residents to make them each feel special and he in turn is rewarded too, learning from his residents.
"I have been amazed at the growth I have seen from the elder generation. I watched a 93-year-old pick up a paint brush for the first time in their life, and discovering a true hidden talent in the process," Nosen said.
After hearing that one resident missed camping, Nosen created a 'Camp-In' event, complete with a faux-campfire, s'mores, campfire stories and tents.
Senior living does not have to be a burden. Our staff at River Terrace will take care of the numerous chores so you can spend more time planning your days with fun and interesting activities with others. Call today to schedule a tour.
