As the wildfires spread throughout Oregon, we knew that a chance existed that we would have to evacuate River Terrace. Our community was prepared with an evacuation plan after coordinating with the City of Oregon City's police chief, the Oregon City School District Transportation Department, as well as our management company and employees.

On September 10th River Terrace made the decision to evacuate after the evacuation level reached Level 2. It is certainly a challenge to move memory care residents given that they suffer from confusion and/or memory loss. Our incredible staff stepped up to the challenge and gently and patiently helped each of our residents load on a bus for the 34-mile trip north to our sister community in Battleground Washington named Creekside Place. Creekside provided a warm welcome for each of our memory care residents and the Creekside staff stepped up to help them with their needs. Friends were made while our residents enjoyed a special 'camping trip' to this new community. On September 14th we safely returned to River Terrace.

Throughout the process we were amazed by how calmly our staff members executed the evacuation procedures. We knew how important it was for each of our residents to feel supported and comforted by our team members. Our team was organized, preparing a small bag of necessities for each resident, as well as their bed linens and some mattresses to ensure that our residents would be comfortable while staying at a new community.

A special thanks is in order to two employees from the Oregon City School District Transportation Department: Teresa Brinsfield, School District Transportation Supervisor and Trudi Diaz-Redman, driver
