Natural and cultural history walking tours exploring historic Oregon City continue from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1.
Participants will meet at the Riverview Plaza Park gathering point adjoining Highway 99E (McLoughlin Boulevard) and the former Blue Heron Paper Co. mill.
Rivers of Life Center's Youth in Tourism Corps will lead the event, which will feature the founder of Linn City (West Linn), 1826-era, Robert Moore, as he "personally" gives an overview of his commerce and business development efforts. Moore led settlement on the west side of the river as his good friend, Dr. John McLoughlin led efforts to settle Oregon City.
Moore, played by former mayor and award-winning presenter Larry McIntyre of West Linn, comments, "I love to tell the story of our region's early history, and I really enjoy working with the young people in the Youth in Tourism Corps. These young people are our future, and leading young people to know the past and communicate it to others can only bode well for our region." Participants can expect to see and hear about major "port activities" at Willamette Falls, see and discuss the Willamette Falls Locks, and hear about the region's fish, wildlife and the amazing Willamette River gorge, which begins in Oregon City.
The development and settlement of the downtown core will be viewed and discussed. For information and reservations for the free event (donations accepted) contact Rivers of Life Center at 503-260-3432
