Oregon City High School grad joins Air Force, Milwaukian named 'Sailor of the Year' at hospital

The federal government recently announced the activities of locals who recently joined the U.S. armed services.

Cross was recognized for his role as assistant leading petty officer in the hospital's Urgent Care Clinic. He helped lead the 24-hour clinic of 48 staff members with 15 junior enlisted sailors in supporting 11 providers to deliver care to approximately 20,000 patients from October 2016 to September 2017.

Meanwhile, a 2014 graduate of Oregon City High School recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas. U.S. Air Force National Guard Airman 1st Class Makayla V. Katona is the daughter of John and Teresa Katona. Her sister Mackenzie Katona of Oregon City is a 2010 graduate of OCHS.

Katona earned distinction as an honor graduate of the Air Force's intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. As a graduate of basic training, she earns four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
