Attempted robbery ends with 6-foot-tall masked suspect fleeing in an unknown direction

Milwaukie police are searching for a masked man who walked into local video-lottery cafe and allegedly pointed a revolver-type handgun at an employee.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, the man armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask reportedly attempted to rob Dotty's, 10843 S.E. Oak St., Milwaukie.

The employee reportedly refused to give the suspect any money and chased the suspect outside. Then the suspect fired one round of ammunition at the employee, police said, but the bullet struck the sidewalk, not the employee. People at Dotty's told KOIN 6 News the clerk is a man in his 30s who generally works nights.

Milwaukie Officer Greg Elkins said the suspect left the scene of the crime in an unknown direction without any money. Police arrived shortly after but were not able to locate the suspect, described as an approximately 6-foot-tall white man who weighs around 200-pounds.

Milwaukie police said this was a highly unusual case.

"It's not something we come across quite often," Elkins said. "Usually we tell people to stay calm, don't put themselves into more danger than they already are and be a good witness."

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have information is asked to call Milwaukie police at 503-786-7500.
