Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon celebrates Spay/Neuter Awareness Month as the perfect time to prevent litters of kittens in the spring

The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO) is offering free spay or neuter services in February for feral and stray cats.

Spay/Neuter Awareness Month is marked in February as the perfect time to spay or neuter cats to prevent litters of kittens in the spring. FCCO is also offering the special in honor of World Spay Day on Feb. 27.

FCCO will offer training on how to use humane live traps to safely catch and transport cats. Surgeries are performed at the FCCO spay/neuter clinic in Southwest Portland and are supported through donations from the community.

Individuals who are feeding feral or stray cats qualify for this special offer, regardless of income or where they live. Services include spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, flea treatment, pain relief medication and an ear-tip for identification. FCCO also will offer specials for pet cats the last week of February.

"Help the feral and stray cats in your neighborhood this February and support FCCO in improving the welfare and reducing the population of feral and stray cats," said FCCO Executive Director Karen Kraus.

Clinics are held regularly Tuesday through Friday, and there is a Sunday clinic on Feb. 18. To schedule an appointment call 503-797-2606 or visit
