Oregon City High School student leaders win national award
Last month, Oregon City High School's Student Council was selected by the National Student Council organization as a Gold Council of Excellence. Only four Oregon schools received this prestigious award.
OCHS teacher and council adviser Mike Lord said the award was given because the students organized events that involved more students in the larger community in positive ways.
In addition to organizing the traditional school dances, more OCHS students have been volunteering in retirement homes or on beach cleanups, for example, thanks to the OCHS Student Council.
For the hard work in encouraging involvement, Lord credited the 2017-18 OCHS Student Council Executive Committee, which includes Associated Student Body President Madi Montgomery, Vice-President Jordan Willard, Secretary/Treasurer, Delaney Kleiner and Outreach Coordinator Grace Didway.
"I can only do so much as an advisor," Lord said. "All four of these senior students have been in Student Council for four years and have been absolutly paramount with making positive changes within our school, focusing on inclusivity, school culture, positivity, student involvement, unity and school enthusiasm."
