Police: Package thief arrested after crashing stolen car
Police say an alleged thief was arrested after he was apparently caught red-handed with pilfered packages inside a stolen vehicle.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says it received reports of a man in a green Honda Civic tailing a UPS delivery truck and snatching packages off porches near the area of Southeast Johnson Creek Boulevard and Wyndham Way on Friday, July 6 in Happy Valley.
A deputy attempted to pull the car over, but the driver allegedly sped away — later colliding with a pole and fleeing the scene on foot.
Police chased down and arrested Dylan Leif Young, 20, and a female passenger who has not been identified. Another man inside the vehicle disappeared during the heat of pursuit.
Deputies say Young's vehicle had been stolen from the Clackamas Town Center parking lot that morning — and have linked Young to another stolen vehicle recovered at the mall. The packages inside the Civic and the other stolen vehicle were returned to their lawful owners.
Young has one felony and two misdemeanors on his record, according to court documents.
He was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle or unauthorized use of a vehicle in June, April and March of this year, court records report. He has also been charged with drug crimes related to delivery or possession of methamphetamine and heroin, court docs say.
