Motorcyclist dies in crash near Sandy
A motorcyclist died in a crash on on US Highway 26 near the intersection of Southeast Canyon Valley Road on Saturday.
The victim is identified as Nicholas C. Irwin, 24, of Rhododendron.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police responded to the crash at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 20
The preliminary investigation revealed that a maroon 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup, operated by Donald J. Edwards, 77, of Estacada, was traveling eastbound on US 26 just west of milepost 26.5, in Sandy.
While turning left onto Canyon Valley Road, the Toyota turned directly in the path of a black 2017 Honda VT1 motorcycle operated by Irwin, who was unable to avoid the collision and collided into the side Toyota.
Irwin sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was decleared deceased despite lifesaving measures made by medical personnel. Both occupants in the Toyota were utilizing safe devices at the time of the collision.
Oregon State Police was assisted by the CCSO, Sandy Fire Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, and All Ways Towing Co.
