'Sleeping lookout' no help in Happy Valley burglary
A homeowner who caught and detained a burglar in the act credits some recently installed security systems to help catch the thieves.
Edward Cerf, 20, and what police call "admitted failed lookout" Gabriella Solis, 19, were arrested by Clackamas County deputies in the incident on Oct. 18.
Around 2:15 p.m. that day, the homeowner called deputies after detaining Cerf while he was leaving the house with stolen items, deputies said in a release. Cerf was wearing a gray jumpsuit with the name "Shawn" on it. Solis was found about a block away sleeping in her car.
The homeowner said the house in the 8900 block of Southeast 139th Avenue in Happy Valley had been burglarized multiple times. The new security measures were installed and were instrumental in catching the pair, authorities said.
Cerf, from Oregon City, faces a burglary charge and also a parole violation. Solis, from Milwaukie, is charged with burglary.
