Gladstone High School hosts regional robotics fair
More than 200 high school students from the Pacific Northwest traveled Oct. 20 to Gladstone High School for a FIRST robotics fair. The event was designed to prepare teens for this year's competition season.
"Students had the opportunity to participate in 32 different workshops on topics from pneumatics, computer-aided design, and programming to electrical wiring, drive trains and game strategy," said event organizer Steve Stewart. "They also learned about grants and college scholarship opportunities."
Teams traveled to the event from Coos Bay, Bend, Philomath, Newport, southwest Washington and across the Portland area. All were affiliated with FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The Gladstone School District has three competitive robotics teams, one at Gladstone High and two at Kraxberger Middle School.
