Oregon City School District wins safety award
Safety and risk coordinator Gail Lockard was awarded the School Safety Star Award from the district's insurance provider, Property and Casualty Coverage for Education (PACE). The award includes $5,000 for a district safety project.
Lockard helped the district achieve many safety improvements. Highlights include reducing workplace injuries, working with leadership to create safety and reunification plans, and securing grant funding to provide emergency supply buckets for each classroom.
"I enjoy being a resource for everyone in the district and helping to solve problems so staff can safely provide educational activities for our students," she said. "Each day is different. which makes this work challenging and rewarding."
With safety and security being the main focus of the recently passed school bond, Lockard's role is increasingly important. In the fall the district will be rolling out a Crisis Manager app for safety planning along with improved radio and cellular communication systems.
