Ronald Reed Caldcleugh, 68, learned that his 49-year-old neighbor was out of town

A 68-year-old Oregon City man was sentenced to 30 days in jail for entering his neighbor's home and stealing her underwear.

Ronald Reed CaldcleughOn June 2, 2018, Ronald Reed Caldcleugh learned that his 49-year-old neighbor was out of town on vacation, according to the indictment. Later that day, police said Caldcleugh was caught on camera entering and leaving her home without permission.

The homeowner called police after she returned and realized Caldcleugh had been inside her residence.

"Home surveillance cameras can help protect you and your property," said Oregon City Police Capt. Shaun Davis. "In this case, the homeowner's surveillance cameras were able to alert the homeowner and positively identify the suspect."

Caldcleugh was originally arrested on one count of first-degree criminal trespass, but as the investigation continued, police said the victim learned underwear was missing from her bedroom. Caldcleugh was then charged with burglary.

Caldcleugh was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree criminal mischief.

During an April 25 trial, Circuit Judge Heather L. Karabeika found Caldcleugh guilty to the first-degree burglary and third-degree theft. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 36 months of probation on May 6.

Caldcleugh had pleaded guilty in 2012 for DUII and had completed a diversion program.
