History comes to life at school in Jennings Lodge
Third graders at Candy Lane Elementary dressed as famous historical figures as they presented biographies of people they studied.
Figures ranged from chef Julia Child and civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. to scientist Albert Einstein to artist Frida Kahlo, labor leader Cesar Chavez and explorer Sacajawea. Students got to present their biographies in both English and Spanish.
"This is my favorite day of the year," said teacher Liz Medina. "When the students first learn they'll have to present in two languages they are overwhelmed, but they rise to the occasion when their audience arrives."
