Milwaukie company seeks to end childhood hunger
Milwaukie-based Bob's Red Mill this month announced a $150,000 commitment to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger in America.
Bob and Charlee Moore have donated millions of dollars through the years to Oregon Health & Science University cancer research and school nutrition programs. With the latest funding pledge to No Kid Hungry, they hope to build on years of support for the Oregon Food Bank, Zenger Farm and other organizations striving to provide healthful meals and nutrition education to Oregonians.
Regularly donating thousands of pounds of whole grain-based foods, Bob's Red Mill was recognized in 2017 with the organization's Hunger Hero Award as the Food Donor of the Year. This past year alone, the company donated more than 360,000 pounds of food, bringing more than 280,000 meals to Oregonians in need.
This new partnership with No Kid Hungry will support the campaign's ongoing efforts to increase access for kids to programs like school breakfast, after-school and summer meals.
"One in six kids in America will face hunger this year," said Jill Davis, senior VP of corporate partnerships for Share Our Strength, the organization behind the No Kid Hungry campaign. "Our goal at No Kid Hungry is to feed those children who don't have enough food. And, through partnerships with companies like Bob's Red Mill on board, we are working toward that goal."
The investment serves as a kickoff for upcoming seasonal fundraising efforts that will allow customers to join Bob's Red Mill in supporting the cause.
