Staff at Providence Milwaukie Hospital didn't realize the automated teller machine had been stolen until the next day.

VIA MPD - A man used a handcart and a cardboard box to steal an ATM loaded with $17,000 from a Milwaukie hospital, police say. The crime was hidden in plain sight.

A brazen thief is wanted by authorities after police in Milwaukie say he used a handcart to haul off an automated teller machine loaded with $17,000 in cash.

Security footage captured the white male suspect after he entered the west door of Providence Milwaukie Hospital, 10150 S.E. 32nd Ave., around 7:22 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 — equipped with only a handcart and a cardboard box.

"The suspect covered the ATM with the box, cut the wires, and wheeled the ATM out of the building," police say. From there, the man loaded the ATM into a black or dark-colored Subaru, which had a sticker of some sort in the right-hand corner of the rear window.

The ATM, which has not yet been recovered, wasn't reported stolen until the next day.
