Susan Borge, Tamae Frame to join West Linn ceramic artists June Haddox and Sara Swink in free public show

Two artists from Oregon City are among the five participating in a Portland Open Studios event at Clay Circle Studio in West Linn.

Oregon City residents Susan Borger and Tamae Frame will join West Linn ceramic artists June Haddox and Sara Swink, along with Sally Squire, a resident of Gresham who works out of Swink's West Linn studio.

A jury of artists selected Borger and Frame from a competitive pool of applicants. Borger constructs art quilts and three-dimensional pieces using recycled garments. She deconstructs them to improvise alignments and to create textures, movement and patterns. Frame creates figurative ceramic sculptures that seek to emphasize the sensitivity and complexity of humanity through their various spiritual and psychological states of being.

During one of Portland's largest juried art events, Portland Open Studios artists explain how they develop their ideas. Demonstrations include live sewing, wheel throwing and hand-building sculpture. A wide range of works for sale include decorative wall pieces, pottery, figurative sculpture and greeting cards.

This year's Open Studios coincides with National Clay Week, which promotes its own open studios tour nationwide to celebrate clay, community and creativity. This year, Portland Open Studios is offering a free map for navigating its 118 artists throughout the Portland metro area, marking the first year the tour is free to the public.
