Two teams from Alliance Charter Academy, Gardiner Middle School participate

Coach Tom Misley joins Oregon City Lunar Ladies PJ Misley, Pahlychai Thao, Peyton Dodd and Sofia Misley. Two Oregon City School teams competed in the Oregon LEGO Robotics Qualifying Tournament held at Mentor Graphics in Wilsonville last month.

LEGO Robotics is offered every season at the Oregon City School District through Oregon City Community Education (OCCE). The fall term just ended for students ages 10-14, with a local expo for all teams, held at Eastham School.

At the expo, each team showed off their LEGO robot and demonstrated how it completes various missions. Teamwork, inclusion, innovation and discovery are among the strong core values taught while still having fun.

Forty-two students from several schools comprised the six Oregon City teams. Two of those teams from Gardiner Middle School and Alliance Charter Academy went on to compete against 233 other schools in Oregon. Gardiner's team, The Lunar Ladies, received the honor of Rookie Team Award and are advancing to the state finals in January.

Winter term registration for kids ages 6 to 9 currently is open through Oregon City Community Education and there are openings for parent volunteers.Pictured from left are Peyton Dodd, PJ Misley and Sofia Misley from Gardiner Middle School.Pictured from left are Ethan Walsh, Jordan Arends, Owen McLaughlin, Silas Neumayer, Greyson Neumayer and Ben Snyder from Alliance Charter Academy.
