When they attended the Portland International Auto Show on Sunday, Ben Hackett of the Rockwood neighborhood in Gresham and his fiancée Sahara Miller were most interested in researching the Honda CR-V SUV for their next new car. Little did they know they were about to walk away with one for free.
Hacket was the winner of the annual new-car giveaway, which is a highlight of the auto show.
"This is the car we were coming to look at," exclaimed Miller after her fiancé was declared the contest winner.
Hackett was one of four finalists, each of whom was given a key to see if it would open the car, which was on display at the show in the Oregon Convention Center. The other finalists — Jason Doty of West Linn, Mary Schreiber of Vancouver and Trevor Solomon of Portland — came away with consolation prizes after their keys failed to open the car.
The new-car giveaway is sponsored by the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association in conjunction with the Pamplin Media Group
