Happy Valley Farmers Market relocates
Happy Valley Farmers Market's new location for the 2020 season is about a half-mile west of its previous location in the Eastridge Church parking lot. This year the market will be held every Saturday, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 through Oct. 31, in the parking lot of the Sunnyside Church, 13231 S.E. Sunnyside Road.
"The new location on the corner of 132nd and Sunnyside Road provides greater visibility, more parking and foot traffic. We are excited for what the future holds, and we thank the church for allowing us to host the community farmers market on their property," said Jamie El-Khal, Happy Valley Farmers Market owner.
New this season, SNAP benefits will be accepted at participating farms and food vendors. SNAP helps remove barriers for families that need assistance in securing fresh and nutritious food.
In previous years, the last Saturday in September marked the end of the season. This year, the market is extended for an additional month to support farm's fall harvest.
Throughout each season, marketgoers can find fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers from local growers. At the tent-covered dining area, you'll find families enjoying handmade tamales, falafel, gyros and tacos. Live music by locally renowned bands appear weekly, along with a myriad of artisan foods, such as local honey, freshly baked goods and handmade items. Kids can enjoy a bounce house, shaved ice and a "Make Your Own Slime" booth each week.
"We put the market on for our community. The city of Happy Valley is very excited about this relocation, and they are in full support, as this was something the city has wanted for some time," El-Khal said.
