Suspect in Blue Heron Paper Mill fire arrested
Oregon City police have arrested a suspect in the Saturday, Dec. 5, fire at the former Blue Heron Paper Mill.
Enrique Omar Mejia, 29, is lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on one count of arson in the second degree, criminal trespass in the second degree and disorderly conduct in the second degree.
According to the Oregon City Police Department, at approximately 1:42 p.m. on Dec. 5, officers responded to a report of a criminal trespass at the former mill, located at 419 Main St. in Oregon City.
Initial information provided by a witness was that an individual was throwing items from a window of a building at the mill. Officers responded and also observed furniture being thrown from an upstairs window.
A short time later, officers observed smoke coming from the same window where the items were being thrown.
Officers formed a perimeter and Clackamas Fire District firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze.
Oregon City detectives and Clackamas Fire District arson investigators are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire and ask anyone who has information about it to contact the Oregon City Police Department tip line, 503-905-3505, and reference OCPD case #20-025904.
