Woman arrested for alleged double homicide in Clackamas County
A woman has been arrested for a double homicide in Clackamas County.
Amanda Kate Gregson, 39, is charged with two counts of murder in the first degree.
The victims were identified as Jerry Dale Burns, 56, of Milwaukie, and Connor James Gaines, 25, of Happy Valley. Authorities are still seeking the firearm used in the murders, and are requesting the public's help in their continued search.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the investigation began at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, March 20, when deputies were dispatched to the report of a shooting at the Reflections apartment complex located at 8800 S.E. Causey Loop in unincorporated Clackamas County near Happy Valley.
While responding, deputies received additional information that two people had been shot inside an apartment and that the suspect was seen fleeing the location on foot.
Both of the victims were dead when deputies arrived.
K9 Ronnie from the Oregon City Police Department responded to assist deputies with a search of the area for the suspect, but the suspect was not immediately located.
Multiple personnel responded to the scene to investigate, including detectives, crime scene investigators, Clackamas County District Attorney's Office investigator and deputy district attorney, and a Clackamas County deputy medical examiner.
Around 2 a.m. Sunday, March 21, deputies responded to a welfare check at the Monarch Hotel located at 12566 S.E. 93rd Ave. in Clackamas. There they discovered the subject they were checking on was Gregson. She was detained without incident and transported to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office for an interview with detectives. Deputies and K9 Ronnie checked inside and around the hotel for possible evidence.
Searchers have not yet located the suspect gun, so police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspected murder weapon. On March 21, the Washington County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Explorer Post 877 and Clackamas County Search & Rescue (CSAR) volunteers did a detailed search for the weapon in areas between the Reflections at Happy Valley apartment complex, where the double homicide occurred, and the Monarch Hotel, where the suspect was located and arrested.
