Milwaukie Porchfest is returning this spring for three evenings of free music, from 6-8 p.m. Fridays, May 7-21.
Anyone in Milwaukie with a talent — singers, musicians, youth performers, dancers — is invited to participate by performing from their porch, driveway or front yard.
Porchfest encourages residents to walk or bike their neighborhoods, meet their neighbors, and share their talents with the community — all while staying socially distanced on their own porches.
Because traditional concerts are not possible during the pandemic, these informal mini-concerts — decentralized across the city — encourage people to keep moving and enjoy an outdoor experience.
Last fall, Porchfest 2020 included 84 mini-concerts throughout Milwaukie over four Fridays. Performers included bagpipers, an improv troupe, several rock bands, two brass quintets and an outdoor drag show.
Based on community feedback, Porchfest 2021 will offer two hours of music over three nights, giving performers the choice to choose one of the one-hour slots, and giving concert-goers more time to move around the city.
