Former robotics coach moving outside district, so applicants are sought to fill seat.

Gladstone public schools are inviting people to apply for appointment to Position 3 on the school board following the resignation of Steve Stewart, who stepped down on Aug. 1 because he is moving outside the district.Steve Stewart

Stewart was appointed to the school board in June 2017 to fill a vacancy after the resignation of Carlos Castañeda in May 2017. Stewart ran unopposed in the May 2019 election to win a term in office through June 30, 2023.

A resident of Gladstone for more than two decades, Stewart was a sales and marketing representative for A&I, a distributor of heavy-duty industrial lubrication. Both his children graduated from Gladstone High School, where he served as coach and mentor to the school's robotics team.

Stewart's replacement is expected to be appointed to the school board on Aug. 31, after the remaining six board members conduct interviews with applicants. At least four out of the six board members will have to vote to appoint the selected applicant, who will take office for the remainder of Stewart's term through June 30, 2023.

The new board member is expected to run in the May 2023 election for a full four-year term in office.

To apply for the volunteer position, you must print, complete, sign and submit an application by Aug. 25 to 17789 Webster Road, Gladstone, OR 97027, or electronically to This email address is being protected from spambots.
