by: JAIME VALDEZ - Oregon City starters (left to right) Jessica Gertz, Cierra Walker and Toria Bradford were honored as three of the top players at the 2014 Class 6A State Champinship Tournament.Oregon City landed three players on the Class 6A Girls Basketball Championships’ all-tournament teams.

Senior wing Jessica Gertz and sophomore point guard Cierra Walker were selected to the elite first unit, while senior point guard Toria Bradford was named to the second team.

South Medford senior Ashley Bolston and Westview senior Jaime Nared were unanimous picks to the first team. South Medford sophomore Julissa Tago also made the first team.

Gertz, Walker and Bradford were among the tournament leaders in several categories.

Gertz (17.3 ppg) and Walker (16 ppg) were the state tournament’s second and third leading scorers — behind Nared (29 ppg). Bradford (12.3 ppg) was seventh on the list of top scorers.

Gertz and Walker were tournament leaders in 3-point shots made, Gertz with 8 and Walker with 7.

Gertz was one of the tournament’s top free throw shooters, hitting the mark on 16-of-17 attempts (.941).

Bradford and Bolston were the tournament leaders in assists, each with 12.

Bradford (3 steals per game), Gertz (2.3) and Walker (2.3) all made the top six in average number of steals per game.

Oregon City’s team led the tournament in points per game (64.7), overall field goal shooting percentage (67-of-137, 48.9 percent), 3-point shooting percentage (21-of-44, 47.7 percent), assists per game (11.3 average), and steals per game (11.3 average).

In Class 6A boys basketball, West Linn junior Anthony Mathis and West Linn sophomore Payton Pritchard were unanimous selections to the 6A Boys Championship Tournament all-tournament team, while West Linn senior Ryan Shearmire was selected to the second team.

West Linn boys repeated as state champions, defeating Sheldon 67-56 in the championship game.
