One of Putnam's two second-half touchdown was scored by the defense as the Kingsmen won Friday's season opener at home

PAMPLIN MEDIA: CONNER WILLIAMS - Putnam's Curtis Hoyle rushed for 67 yards on six carries in Friday's 14-7 home win over Molalla.Putnam's Isaiah Schumacher picked up a fumble and scored, and Lucas Gardner caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Marcellus Kenion, leading the Kingsmen to a season-opening 14-7 home win Friday over Molalla.

After a scoreless first half, Putnam got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Molalla quarterback Chase Jazdinski fumbled under pressure from Schmacher, who picked up the loose ball and scored to give the Kingsmen a 7-0 lead.

Molalla answered with Silvero Lopez rushing touchdown in the third quarter, but Putnam countered with Kenion connecting with Gardner for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.

In the game, Kenion completed 4 of 8 passes for 60 yards, while Schumacher had nine carries for a team-high 70 yards, and Curtis Hoyle added six carries for 67 yards for the Kingsmen.

Jazdinski completed 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards, and Brandon Palmer has three receptions for 73 yards. Braden Hibbs was Molalla's leading ground gainer with 18 yards on eight carries.

Putnam finished with 197 yards total offense to Molalla's 133.

The Kingsmen travel this week to Pendleton for a non-conference game against the Buckaroos, who are coming off a 36-29 home loss to La Grande on Friday.
