Prep football: Clackamas passing game picks apart Reynolds, 55-0
Clackamas quarterback Mitchell Modjeski completed 18 of 20 passes for 318 yards and six touchdowns to five different receivers, leading the Cavaliers to a 55-0 blowout win over Reynolds in Friday's Mt. Hood Conference opener at Mt. Hood Community College.
Cole Turner caught touchdown passes of 8 and 46 yards, and James Millspaugh and Aric Bergers added TD receptions on 15 and 30 yards, respectively, as the Cavaliers (3-0, 1-0 Mt. Hood) jumped out to a 28-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.
Clackamas extended the lead to 42-0 at halftime after Nick Vaughn scored on 2-yard run and Matthew Dalzell caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Modjeski.
With the clock throughout in the second half, the Cavaliers closed out the scoring with two more touchdowns passes -- a 21-yard, Modjeski-to-Jack Dollens strike in the third quarter, and a 33-yard, Austin Atkeson-to-Dalzell connection in the fourth.
Turner was Clackamas' top receiver with five catches for 96 yards, while Bergers caught four passes for 93 yards, Dalzell caught two for 51, and Thomas Tolonen caught four for 46.
Vaughn led the Cavaliers' ground game with nine carries for 83 yards.
Through three games, Modjeski has completed 54 of 65 passes (83.1 percent) for 860 yards and 12 touchdowns with no interceptions. His favorite target has been Turner, who has 22 receptions for 374 yards -- an average of 124.7 yards per game -- and five touchdowns.
The Cavaliers return home Friday to face Central Catholic at 7 p.m. in a battle between of defending Mt. Hood Conference co-champions.
Central Catholic won 35-28 in last year's game at Hillsboro Stadium, but shared the Mt. Hood title with the Cavaliers after both teams finished 6-1 in league play. Clackamas has lost all three games against the Rams since joining the Mt. Hood in 2014.
