Affliction wins Father's Day softball tourney
West Linn Father's Day tournament
WEST LINN — The Affliction Fastpitch 12U softball team saved its best for last to win an eight-team Father's Day tournament in West Linn last weekend.
Trailing 4-1 and down to its last out, Affliction's Allie Ball beat out an infield single to the left side to load the bases. Savannah Kane followed with a two-run double to center field that left the tying run bouncing anxiously at third base.
She wouldn't have to wait for long.
Adayah Trickel swung through with a bouncer to the left side to bring Ball home with the tying run. Team Adrenaline, out of Longview, Wash., saw its throw to first go wide allowing Kane to zip home for what proved to be the winning run in Affliction's 5-4 victory.
Affliction stayed within reach by turning back bases-loaded threats in the first two innings. Pitcher Gracie Huston got out of trouble with a strikeout to end the first, while shortstop Taylor Madrid caught a high fly ball to end a threat in the second. Team Adrenaline stranded eight runners across the first three innings.
