Gladstone's Damian Alvarado, Derek Lee, and Ben McCoy played key roles as the North won by scores of 16-6, 11-7, and 10-3

PAMPLIN MEDIA: JIM BESEDA - Gladstone's Damian Alvarado was named the North's most inspirational player after the North capped a three-game sweep in the June 16-17 Class 4A Baseball All-Star series in Roseburg.Gladstone's Derek Lee went 2 for 3 and scored two runs to help lead the North to a 10-3 win over the South and complete a three-game sweep of the 39th annual Class 4A Baseball All-Star series held June 16-17 at Legion Memorial Stadium Roseburg.

Lee was joined by teammates Damian Alvarado and Ben McCoy in representing the reigning Class 4A state champion Gladiators in the annual showcase of the state's top graduating seniors.

North Marion's Andy Schmitz was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Lee was recognized as the outstanding player of the North team, McCoy was selected the outstanding pitcher for the North, and Alvarado earned most inspirational honors for the North.

McCoy drew the start in the series opener and pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts as the North rolled to a 16-6 victory.

McCoy also went 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI in the opener, while Alvarado went 1 for 3 with a stolen base, and Lee went 0 for 1 with two walks and scored a run.

In Game 2, Lee went 1 for 1 with a double a scored a run in the North's 11-7 come-from-behind win.

Trailing 5-3, the North scored four runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth to break the game open.

In the finale, Lee drew the start for the North and worked four innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

After the North took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, the South answered with three runs in the second. The North then put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to complete the series sweep.

In the series, Lee went 3 for 5 with a double, two walks, an RBI, and four runs scored.
