Austin Conner throws shutout vs. Estacada

Gladstone's baseball team kept pace at the top of the Tri-Valley Conference with a 10-0 shutout at home against Estacada on Monday night.
The Gladiators turned back a threat when Estacada put two runners on in the second inning. Cody Hovda moved them both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, but Gladstone starter Austin Conner struck the next batter out looking to retire the side.
Estacada's No. 9 hitter Jose Vasquez singled to left field to lead off the third inning, but a ground out to third baseman Mateo Burgos left him stranded at second base and kept the game scoreless.
Gladstone fixed the zeroes on the scoreboard with a four-run burst in the bottom of the inning. Conner got it started with an RBI-single to the third-base side, while Jake Gekrke singled to short for an RBI-single and an overthrow allowed another to come across.
The Gladiators put the game out of reach in the fourth when Burgos scored on a wild pitch and Brady Rather came across on a sacrifice ground ball to build the lead to 6-0.
Gladstone hit 11-for-27 (.407) with four players coming up with multiple hits, led by Gehrke, who was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Conner went the distance on the mound, striking out seven without giving up a walk.
Gladstone added a 19-1 win at Corbett on Wednesday to improve to 11-1 in league — a half-game behind North Marion, which it hosts in a Tri-Valley title showdown at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
