Oregon City freshman Eva Howard captured top honors in the In Hand Trail competition at the June 14-16 Pacific Northwest Invitational Championship high school equestrian regional meet at the Deschutes County Expo in Redmond.
Howard and Stetson, a miniature horse she borrowed from teammate Mikayla Wacker, posted scores of 78 and 91 for a winning total of 169, followed by Canby's Akua Swift (85-80-165) and Barlow's Jenessa Teachout (72-91-163).
The season-ending PNWIC features the top five teams and individuals from each event at the Oregon and Washington high school equestrian state championship meets.
Teachout of Barlow had scores of 92 and 104 for a total of 196 to win the Driving event, while Wacker (82-92-174) finished fifth.
In the Figure 8 race, Aimee Henderson of Ferndale, Washington, set a meet record with a winning time of 10.168 seconds. Wacker placed fifth in 10.75.
Oregon City's Leah Bills also scored 12 team points for the Pioneers after placing fifth in Working Rancher with a score of 81-91-172.
