St. Bernard's Academy quarterback Will Omey passed for 265 yards and four TDs and rushed for 243 and another score Friday

St. Bernard's Academy quarterback Will Omey passed for 265 yards and four touchdowns, and had 30 carries for 243 yards and another scoring , leading the Crusaders of Eureka, Calif., to a 43-41 road win Friday over the Falcons in Milwaukie.

Ryan BjorvikLa Salle Prep quarterback Ryan Rosumny threw touchdown passes of 53 yards to Jacob Waterman in the first quarter, 48 yards to Ryan Bjovik in the third quarter, and 20 yards to Waterman in the fourth quarter, pulling the Falcons within 43-41 with 10:33 to play.

The Falcons attempted a two-point conversion after Waterman's second touchdown grab, but Rosumny couldn't find an open receiver and his throw fell incomplete.

"We had a missed assignment on our protection and then the receiver ran the wrong route, so Ryan ended up scrambling around a bit," Falcons coach Aaron Hazel said.

La Salle defense got a stop, giving the offense one more chance to drive for a go-ahead score, but the Falcons stalled near the St. Bernard's 30 -- too far out for a field goal attempt -- and turned the ball over on downs with about 4:30 to play.

The Crusaders (4-0) converted twice on third down and were able to hold the ball long enough to kill the clock.

"St. Bernard's was really athletic," Hazel said. "They had fewer numbers and we thought we were going to wear them down, but we were the ones who had some issues with cramping near the end of the game.

"Our defense made some good adjustments at halftime and did a good job of holding them to one touchdown in the second half. It was just that their quarterback is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks, and they had two receivers who were as good as any receivers we'll see this year."

The teams traded touchdowns in a high-scoring first quarter that saw La Salle's JaJuan Lane score on a 2-yard run, James Menor score on a 95-yard kickoff return, and Waterman score on a 53-yard pass from Rosumny.

Individual La Salle statistics were not available before the newspaper went to press.
