Clackamas bounces back in big way, rolls over Beaverton, 39-19
Clackamas quarterback Austin Atkeson passed for 261 yards and four touchdowns and added another 64 yards rushing to help guide the Cavaliers to a 39-19 non-conference home win Friday over the Beaverton Beavers.
Atkeson threw touchdowns passes of 5 yards to Miles Williams and 36 yards to Nick Kennwell in the first quarter, 11 yards to Kennewell in the second quarter, and 57 yards to Dan Mahler in a game Clackamas led from wire to wire.
JeanElie Fleck added a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown and Tyler Sims scored on a 2-yard run as Clackamas bounced back from a 41-28 loss to Lakeridge and handed Terry Drake his first win as coach of the Cavaliers (1-1).
Beaverton (1-2) turned the ball on a muffed punt return and an interception in the first three minutes of the game, and then struggled to move the ball against an aggressive Clackamas defense as the Cavaliers opened a 26-6 halftime lead.
The Beavers trailed 13-0 in the second quarter when senior quarterback Carson Budke led an eight-play, 81-yard scoring drive that ended with senior tailback Logan McRae scoring on a 17-yard run with 9:55 in the half.
Fleck blocked the extra-point try to keep the lead at 13-6.
Beaverton had the ball three more times before the end of the second quarter, but failed to cross midfield on any of the possessions.
Clackamas took a 33-6 lead into the fourth quarter when Budke threw touchdown passes of 18 yards to Trent Walker and 1 yard to Kyron Albright to help make the final score look a little more respectable.
