Gregg's 34 points and 14 rebounds keys Friday road win over the Gophers as the Cavaliers maintain share of first in Mt. Hood

Ben GreggClackamas' Ben Gregg finished with 34 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots, leading the Cavaliers to a 72-49 victory Friday over Gresham in Mt. Hood Conference boys basketball action at Barlow High School in Gresham.

Ryan Lewis added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers (11-4, 4-1), who jumped out to a 33-26 halftime lead and outscored the Gophers 22-11 in the third quarter to break the game open.

Elijah Munyan and Esyah Pippa-White scored 12 points each to pace Gresham (12-3, 3-2).

TUALATIN 59, OREGON CITY 52 (OT): The visiting Timberwolves outscored Oregon City 10-3 in overtime to wrap their first Three Rivers League win and send the Pioneers to their third consecutive loss to open league play.

Andre Best finished with a team-high 16 points and Jake Gettel added 12 to lead Oregon City (9-6, 0-3 Three Rivers).

PUTNAM 47, PARKROSE 40: Logan Turner scored eight of his game-high 15 points in the first half, leading the Kingsmen to a Northwest Oregon Conference home win Friday over the Broncos.

K.J. Ruffo added 14 points and Sam Sholty finished with eight points to help pace Putnam (8-6, 2-2 NWOC).

GLADSTONE 71, CORBETT 46: Sabastian Peiffer finished with 14 points to lead four Gladstone players in double figures, pacing the Gladiators to a Tri-Valley Conference road win Friday over the Cardinals.

Jude Ashpole and Brandon Wanlass added 13 points each and Jeremy De Voe had 11 to help send the Gladiators (11-4, 2-0 Tri-Valley) to their sixth straight win.


CLACKAMAS 61, GRESHAM 26: Bella Garcia scored a team-high 11 points to lead a balanced attack that carried the Cavaliers to a Mt. Hood Conference road win Friday over the Gophers.

Ava Peterson added eight points and Kiah Wetzell finished with seven for the Cavaliers (7-8, 4-1 Mt. Hood), who won their second in a row to keep pace with Barlow and Central Catholic atop the league standings.

OREGON CITY 38, TUALATIN 35: Mia Martineau scored a team-high eight points and Katie Kathan, Jalissa Lugo, and Emmaly Welch added seven points each, leading the Pioneers to a Three Rivers League road win Friday over the Timberwolves.

MacKenzie Hood finished with six points for the Pioneers (10-4, 2-2), who opened a 33-21 lead through three quarters and then held on in crunch time.

LA SALLE PREP 78, MILWAUKIE 45: Addi Wedin led La Salle with 30 points and Emily Niebergall scored 13, pacing the Falcons to a Northwest Oregon Conference win over the visiting Mustangs.

Rhyan Mogel added 11 points and was the only other player to score in double figures for the Falcons (12-3, 3-1 NWOC), who opened a 40-18 halftime lead and then outscored Milwaukie 24-3 in the third quarter.

Milwaukie's Cali Denson led all scorers with 35 points for the Mustangs (7-7, 2-2), who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

PUTNAM 91, PARKROSE 29: Mimi Booth, Emma McDonald, and McKenna Weaver scored 16 points each, leading the Lady Kingsmen to a Northwest Oregon Conference blowout win over the visiting Broncos.

Miranda Evans added 12 points and Ashlyn Bigbee chipped in 11 for the K-gals (9-6, 3-1 NWOC), who jumped out to a 47-5 halftime lead.

GLADSTONE 68, CORBETT 58: Hanne Hopkins scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the second half and finished with five rebounds and four assists, leading the Gladiators to a Tri-Valley Conference road win Friday.

Jade Rowley added 17 points and six rebounds, and Sam Jedrykowski had 12 points and three steals for Gladstone (8-7, 2-0 Tri-Valley).


JOE STEWART INVITE: Gladstone's Hunter Lehman and Putnam's Kevin Villa won individual titles during Saturday's Joe Stewart Invitational wrestling tournament at Putnam High School in Milwaukie.

Lehman went 3-0 with three pins to clinch the 160-pound title, stopping Beaverton's Vincent Vanzuylen with 25 seconds remaining in the second round of the final.

Villa pinned his first two opponents in the 195-pound bracket and then scored an 11-0 major decision over Woodburn's Jaime Cruz in the final.

Gladstone's Chael Williams finished as the runner-up at 170, winning his first two matches with pins before losing to Colton's Joseph Moore by third-round fall in the final.

HOOD RIVER INVITE: Oregon City's Emma Baertlein and Milwaukie's Fiona McConnell earned spots at the top of the winner's podium during Saturday's Hood River Girls Invitational wrestling tournament at Hood River Valley High School.

Baertlein won by a first-round fall in the quarterfinals, won by a second-round fall in the semifinals, and then scored a 4-0 decision over top-ranked Olivia Flack of La Pine in the 100-pound final.

McConnell went 4-0 with one technical fall and three pins to claim the 190-pound title. In the final, McConnell opened a 5-0 lead before putting Philomath's Reynece Ryan on her back with 10 seconds remaining in the second round.
