Chelsea Lowrie of Oregon City calls out Congressman for not suggesting alternate candidate for speaker

I am extremely disappointed that U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader recently signed onto a letter with some colleagues opposing Rep. Nancy Pelosi's candidacy for speaker of the U.S. house.

I agree with Rep. Schrader's stance, as I was not fond of Rep. Pelosi's last tenure as speaker. Moreover, I believe we need new leadership in the House.

However, I do believe that his decision to sign this letter was cowardly. He created a problem without proposing a solution. He is fully capable of providing solutions, as recently evidenced by by his support of a new candidate for the position of House majority leader.

Rep. Schrader speaks often, with pride, of his membership in the Problem Solvers Caucus; signing a letter of dissent without providing an alternative candidate or true solution is hypocritical. He also speaks often of the need for our representatives to work together, work across the aisle, work for common-sense solutions. By signing onto this letter, he has done none of these things. He has merely stirred the pot.

I do not expect Rep. Schrader to successfully represent me at every turn. I do, however, expect that he be consistent in his values and to follow through on his promises. Our elected officials need to refrain from political posturing and work to solve the problem next time.
