Steve Johnson, a former Gladstone city councilor: 'The world hasn't ended. It's just taking a pause.'

Things will get better. The current situation will end. America is and will remain strong.

WWI, the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War, 9/11 and many more. What do all of these things have in common? It's simple, they all ended and life continued in America.

Steve JohnsonWhen will the current problems end? Soon, or maybe later than that, perhaps tomorrow. OK, we don't really know, but it will end, just like all of the other bad periods in our history. When it ends, we'll get back to work and our society will reopen for business and especially for family and friends.

Personally, I can't wait to see my 82-year-old mother in Seattle and give her a big hug. In her senior years she has shrunk a bit and no longer worries about her weight. Instead she worries about mine. I liked it the other way better.

We'll mourn those who we lost and ways will be found to keep the numbers from going so high next time. Lots of history will be written that will help those in the future to better prepare for that next time.

In hometown Gladstone, I smile when seeing families of all ages walking along our sidewalks. Often with their dogs, sometimes not. Small fry on little bicycles with training wheels, zooming every which way. All appear cheerful and happy as summer approaches.

It gives me hope. After all, the world hasn't ended. It's just taking a pause.

Things will get better.
