Charles Gallia: Senator fails to show up to work, but still receives his Senate paycheck

There's a Google feature that allows you to type in what you're looking for and "near me."

Icons then pop up on a map where there are restaurants, parks or whatever you're seeking. I wish there were one to locate state Sen. Alan Olsen.

Charles GalliaOlsen isn't showing up for work nor communicating with the district. I was frustrated by this, so I signed up for newsletters of other state senators.

Other state senators give their constituents regular updates, previews and then summaries of legislative activity. They regularly write about policies, budget challenges and assistance for families and businesses dealing with COVID. Not only does Olsen fail to communicate, he fails to show up for work.

After being absent more than any other state senator in Oregon last session, beyond the "walkout," his absentee trend continues. Legislative days, absent; special session, absent.

Yet, he collects his state Senate paycheck while thousands of unemployed Oregonians have yet to see a dime.

Where has he been? What's he doing that is more important than weighing in on budget cuts? How are we being represented when our senator continues to be a no-show? We deserve better.

Charles Gallia is a resident of the unincorporated area of Oregon City who in 2018 ran against state Sen. Alan Olsen, R-Canby.
